Climate Investing’s Winners and Losers

Who will the winners and losers in clean energy be? How much should governments support clean energy? What was wrong with ESG?

ESG and clean energy are among the more polarizing issues in investing. At the intersection of science, ideology, politics, and economics, this space has seen passionate debate – and both huge winners and huge losers in capital markets.

Dave Callaway, founder of Callaway Climate Insights, sat down with me to unpack winners and losers in the clean energy space. And more broadly, to talk about what we’ve learned from ESG’s stumbles – what elements will endure, and what won’t.

As an ice climber and skier facing shorter, warmer winters, this topic is close to my heart. But I worry for reasons beyond my own recreation, too: climate change can be life-altering for people, animals, and plants alike. But how much can we do about it scientifically, socially, and economically? It’s not an easy question to answer, but I respect people like Dave who dive into it headfirst.
