What is fractional share trading?

Fractional share trading allows you to purchase stocks based on a specific dollar amount rather than the number of shares. For instance, if AMZN is trading at $3,000 per share and you wish to buy $2,000 worth of AMZN stock, fractional share trading enables you to acquire less than one full share of the stock.
